May 2009: Gem Beach Resort, Kuala Terengganu

First of all, if you don't know where Kuala Terengganu is, you can simply GoogleEarth. I was there 17-28 May 2009. The best thing about May this year is that I travel so much that I start to think it's like a birthday present, besides it IS my birthday month! Haha!!

Ni lah die kolam renang alias swimming pool.. This is the only swimming pool that Ive seen ever in my life, where people with long trousers, tshirts n head scarf jumping in.. Hehe.. Good Job Gem Beach!!! We're in Malaysia a Muslim country.. so obviously you should allow Muslimah (Muslim women and girls) jumping in the pool with their proper attire (ye lah. kalau pakai jubah pun nak masuk gak melampau la tuuuu.. man-man la wei...)

The sea view was.. WOW! speechless! As you can see in the pic above, there's another blue stripe in the pic after the pool. That's the sea. The South China Sea.

That's one of our friend from the course. Look at the view.. *Sigh.. Definitely not safe to swim here.

Bila air surut, macam ni lah pantainya.. Pasirnya macam batu hancur. sakit kaki! Kalau di Mukah, pasirnya halus sampai susah nak buang bila lekat di kaki! Tpaksa cuci kaki & slipar sekali.. aisehh.. Lagi nak main pantai kan...

That's the same view.

Tengok kanak-kanak dan mak-mak ribena ni.. Main cak-cak pun ade. Yang buat-buat tak perasan pun ade.. Ecewahh! Credits to Rizal PSandakan, the photographer. I salute you !

Ni lagi.. My friends. I was not there. You can see there across the beach, there are islands. Not sure what are the names.. Feel free like GoogleEarth them up?

Accomodation: Just Okay. Have some problems with water supply pressure.

Food: Okay. During the second week of my stay, I get fed up with the same menu. They did'nt serve local cuisine until we requested. But local delicacies were served during tea break . But still, where's Nasi Dagang? I thought we were in Terengganu?!

Transportation: The hotel have their transport but you have to pay to use them.

To/From Kuala Terengganu town: 45 minutes. RM50 by taxi. RM150 by hotel transport. Better have your private transport, so you can go to more places around the resort. Plus, boleh la borong kepok gete (keropok lekor boiled to cook) , kepok keping (sliced 'keropok' lekor usually fried), or kepok sira (dried 'keropok' with chilli sauce). Apa ye keropok dlm english? den tak reti? crackers ke? HAHAHA!

To/ From Sultan Mahmud Airport: 30 minutes. RM35 from the airport.

For Keropok Lekor, you go to Seberang Takir at Kampung Losong. There are hawkers and shops that sell many types of keropok there. Pergi la pilih sampai pening-pening lalat. A friend of mine tu sampai mabuk tengok keropok. Balik tu terus tak lalu nak makan keropok lekor. Huhu. Ade jugak.. My aunt brought us to "Kedai Adik-Beradik". But please remember to be patient. They have many customers from all over Kuala Terengganu and you get to see tourists most of the time. They make very good keropok. Sebab? Takde la tulang ikan lekat kat gusi ke.. gigi ke.. Some customer may buy RM10 up to RM100. so.. sabar la banyak-banyak menunggu. Small keropok lekor 5 pieces for RM1.00, Big keropok lekor 1 piece for 50sen.

For those (Muslim female) who wants to shop for scarf don't go to Pasar Payang. Go find a place called Desa Murni. I think its 30%-50% cheaper than the price in Kuala Lumpur.

For Batik and Silk you will have to find local people to get best bargain price. They are expensive if you go to boutique of course.. i.e; the well known :Nor Arfa Batik

Go to Taman Tamadun Islam and Muzium Terengganu if you have the chance. I didn't get the chance to go to Crystal Mosque at Taman Tamadun Islam. Its beautiful but I still love the original Floating Mosque(Tengku Tengah Zaharah Mosque) , the one that became Raja Bahrin's signature at Teluk Ibai, Kuala Terengganu.

Terengganu have beautiful beaches and islands in Malaysia. Terengganu is interesting because of its culture.
But the most beautiful beaches and islands are in Sabah.
I think you can rely on my judgment since I've finished touring Malaysia from Perlis to Johor and Sabah. (Sarawak is my home land.)

holiday nov2011 01

We had an 'explorace' holiday last November 2011. Our flight to Kuala Terengganu (KL transit) was on 25 Nov. Arrived at night, an we went straight to YT Midtown Hotel. A strategically located hotel and I consider it as budget hotel. Paying RM120 for a RM150 sized room! Its definitely not a boutique hotel or spa resort. But cozy enough to rest and sleep. No weird smell or sound. The small pic of my son was on the plane. The Floating Mosque (i think its called Masjid Tunku Zaharah or something like that..), located at Tanjung Ibai. Its rainy day so we decided to just sightseeing from the car (rented car with very good deal!) Then we went to see Masjid Putih, as the local called it. Passing by the White Mosque (Masjid Putih), the driver took us to the Fishery Department Port. A visit only a few lucky people like us could get! The driver is like the president of fishermen's union or something.. So we get to see the real boat and ships used to fish! Its not like we never...
